On ovoids of O(5, q)

چکیده

This article is about ovoids of the generalised quadrangle O(5, q) and, equivalently, spreads of the generalised quadrangle Sp(4, q). In a less than conventional way the quadrangles are represented in the field GF (q) which allows some amount of computation to be done. It is shown that an ovoid of O(5, q) meets an elliptic quadric in 1 modulo p points.

Group–theoretic characterizations of classical ovoids

An ovoid of PG(3, q), q > 2, is a set of q + 1 points of PG(3, q), no three of which are collinear. The only known ovoids of PG(3, q) are the elliptic quadrics, which exist for all q, and the Suzuki-Tits ovoids, which exist for q = 2, e ≥ 3 odd, [10]. It is well known that for odd q, the only ovoids are the elliptic quadrics. For even q, the ovoids have been classified only for q up to and incl...

Binary codes of the symplectic generalized quadrangle of even order

Let q be a prime power and W (q) be the symplectic generalized quadrangle of order q. For q even, let O (respectively, E , T ) be the binary linear code spanned by the ovoids (respectively, elliptic ovoids, Tits ovoids) of W (q) and Γ be the graph defined on the set of ovoids ofW (q) in which two ovoids are adjacent if they intersect at one point. For A ∈ {E , T ,O}, we describe the codewords o...

On Semi-Pseudo-Ovoids

In this paper we introduce semi-pseudo-ovoids, as generalizations of the semi-ovals and semi-ovoids. Examples of these objects are particular classes of SPG-reguli and some classes of m-systems of polar spaces. As an application it is proved that the axioms of pseudo-ovoid O(n, 2n, q) in PG(4n − 1, q) can be considerably weakened and further a useful and elegant characterization of SPG-reguli w...

Ovoids and Translation Ovals

An oŠoid in a 3-dimensional projective geometry PG(3, q) over the field GF(q), where q is a prime power, is a set of q#1 points no three of which are collinear. Because of their connections with other combinatorial structures ovoids are of interest to mathematicians in a variety of fields ; for from an ovoid one can construct an inversive plane [3], a generalised quadrangle [11], and if q is e...

A family of ovoids of the Hermitian Surface in PG(3, q) with q ≥ 5 odd

Multiple derivation of the classical ovoid of the Hermitian surface H(3, q) of PG(3, q) is a well known, powerful method for constructing large families of non classical ovoids of H(3, q). In this paper, multiple derivation is generalised and applied to non-classical ovoids. A resulting new family of ovoids is investigated. Mathematics Subject Classification (2000).
